SUMMARY:ELEMENTAL FORCES: A post-industrial walk around Silverthorne Lane
DESCRIPTION:. \n\n\n\nJoin Bristol Industrial Archaeology Society on a tour of one of Bristol’s most important\, but overlooked\, industrial areas; Silverthorne Lane and St Philips Marsh are undergoing massive change. This is an excellent opportunity to see what survives\, and how it‘s being incorporated into new development.Led by BIAS Chair David Martyn\, Bristol City Council’s senior conservation architect\, and Vice-Chair Simon Hickman\, formerly Historic England’s lead inspector for the area\, discover the surviving Georgian Gas Works\, Iron Works that supplied Brunel with ship components\, tar works that underpinned the GWR\, works that distributed steelwork across the globe\, and all tied together by Bristol’s historic waterways.
