On 22 May 2010, 10 light hovercraft and the Portishead Lifeboat went in convoy up the Avon from Shirehampton to Bath Road Bridge with the Lord Mayor on board. This was in aid of the Portishead Lifeboat. This was the first time a hovercraft had ever passed under the Suspension Bridge
